Community Band & Chorus
The mission of the Sleepy Hollow Community Band & Chorus is to connect musicians of all backgrounds and skill levels, fostering a collaborative environment where the joy of music transcends individual differences.
We are dedicated to performing diverse repertoire, encompassing works from composers across all genres and eras, celebrating the richness and variety of musical expression. Through concerts and community engagements, we aim to share our passion for music, create meaningful connections, and enrich the cultural life of our local community.
SHAC Community Music Fall Season
Sleepy Hollow Arts Collective (SHAC) is busy planning the fall season with the
Sleepy Hollow Community Band & Chorus, but in the meantime we have a fun,
informal opportunity we’re putting together for any available band members.
On Wednesday, August 31st, at 8:30am (yes, a.m.!) we will perform for the TUFSD teachers and staff
to welcome them back after summer and kick off their back-to-school assembly.
Sleepy Hollow students who participate can earn community service or Tri-M credit
and it’s a great opportunity to play music in the summer and be ready for band to start back up in September!
There will be two rehearsals: Monday, August 24th and Wednesday, August 26th, 6:00-8:00pm.

Abby Ferri (Music Director)
Abby Ferri is in her 5th year teaching 4th/5th Grade Band at Washington Irving Intermediate School in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns. In addition to teaching 4/5th Grade Band, Abby co-teaches the WI jazz band and conducts the high school pit orchestra. In 2022, Abby was selected from among band directors across the state to conduct at the New York State Band Directors Association Conducting Symposium with clinician Jack Stamp. Also a flutist, Abby was a member of the Hudson Valley Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and performed the 50th Anniversary of Karel Husa’s Music for Prague, with the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble at Lincoln Center in 2019. This past summer, Abby presented at the Conn Selmer Institute Eastern Conference about Commissioning Multi-Level Music for band and Abby's 2023 commissioning project, Sparks Burn Brightly Among the Skies by Bruce Tippette, was recently published by Wingert Jones. Abby completed her BM in Music Education at Ithaca College and is currently in the MM Performance - Concentration in Conducting Program at Montclair State University in the conducting studio of Dr. Thomas McCauley. When she is not getting an adrenaline rush from conducting music, she loves to ski double-black slopes in Vermont.
Madeline Franklin (Chorus Director)
Madeline Franklin has been teaching since the turn of the century. She started her career teaching general music in an elementary school in Northern Virginia. She then moved to NYC and taught upper elementary and middle school general music and chorus at Columbia Grammar and Prep School for 19 years. Currently, she is in her second year teaching lower school music at Rye Country Day School. Maddie has a Bachelor of Music from Catholic University of America, and a Master of Education with an Emphasis in Kodály (an approach to teaching music) from Loyola University of Maryland.
Kai Gross (Accompanist)
Kai Gross has been teaching high school music at Columbia Grammar and Prep School for the last 18 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Williams College, Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, and a Master of Arts from New York University’s Steinhardt School. In addition to teaching, Kai is a pianist and multi-instrumentalist and is also a composer in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Advanced Workshop.
Both Maddie and Kai are excited to be working together again to bring songs to the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow Community!
